The Company believes that its activities contribute in overcoming societal challenges while also creating added value for the Company. Atlas Honda is fulfilling its responsibilities as a good corporate citizen through ongoing involvement in socially beneficial activities tailored for well-being of local communities. The Company’s approach is driven by the needs of communities at its locations identified through surveys, social media platforms, focal groups and meetings. The Company has integrated this perspective in to its development plans and overall strategy to garner the trust of and remain close to local residents. The Company regularly engages with local communities to highlight any potential negative impacts of its operations on the society as whole. During the year no such incidents were reported to the Company. All of the company’s operations are frequently assessed for any environmental, social, health and safety impact on the society as a whole.

Implementation and monitoring of social activities at the Company’s locations are routed through senior management of Admin & Corporate Affairs department who are also responsible for review and analysis of monthly progress of such initiatives. Progress is reported to the senior management on a continuous basis. The Company’s commitments & initiatives for society mainly focus on health, education and other communal initiatives. During the year following activities were undertaken:

Education & Training

An educated and skilled nation is critical for socioeconomic development of a country. The Company believes that improving access to education & training is one of the most long-lasting investments it can make for the society. In this regard, following activities were carried out to support education & training:

Paid Internships

The Company’s internship program offers an opportunity to undergraduate students to help them in building their career foundations. Such programs give hands-on experience to interns which cannot be obtained in classrooms and is great way for them to acquaint themselves with the field of their interest. This also helps the Company to discover quality employees for future. During the year, 210 students from reputable universities including NED University, NUST, Quaid-e-Azam University, IoBM, SZABIST, Iqra University and LUMS completed their internships.

SOS Training Institute

The SOS Technical Training Institute trains deserving boys and girls every year to help them break the cycle of poverty, earn decent and dignified living and develop themselves to become productive members of the society. Demand driven technical education and vocational training in the field of automobile and electrical engineering is provided by experienced instructors. To support the Institute’s efforts, the Company sponsors training the students every year. Further, equipment/hardware support is also provided.

Industrial Visits

The Company facilitates students and officials from various institutes and organizations to visit its Karachi and Sheikhupura plants. This year officials from Punjab Labour and Human Resource Department, Department of Horticulture, OSH team and students from various universities visited the plants and observed the process of production of motorcycles and parts. Visitors took keen interest in the assembly line and appreciated the precision exhibited by the workers.

Communal Initiatives

The Company acknowledges that the community initiatives are an investment that works hand-in-glove with its overall business strategy and values. Therefore, the Company collaborates with various stakeholders to address social issues and carry out initiatives that matter to local people.

Donation

The Company supports Atlas Foundation, a welfare and charitable organization formed with a mission of betterment of society with particular emphasis on health and education. It provides assistance to the needy and deserving without discrimination, directly and/or through organizations of repute in the field of health, education and general welfare. The Company recognizes the Foundation’s role annually in improving quality of life of local communities and donates at least one percent of its profits to it. In 2022-23, the Company made a contribution of Rs. 78.1 million.

The Company does not make any contributions to any political party or for any political purpose to any individual or body.

Flood Relief Activities

Atlas group has a strong commitment towards it’s social responsibility and always try to contribute its share whenever catastrophic situation arises in the Country. In this regard, for the flood relief activities Atlas Group and its venture partner Honda group of companies, together announced a support of Rs. 220 Million (Approximately 1 Million USD) as initial contribution of the flood relief. Provisions include supply of food boxes, shelters, tents, filtration equipment and medical equipment. The Activity was channeled through 10,000 touch points of Atlas Honda Limited dealers and community network, established in the country over a presence of 60 Years. Atlas Honda Limited contributed Rs. 25.5 Million to these flood relief activities as part of its share of the Atlas group’s commitment.

Women on Wheels

The Company has been undertaking initiatives to empower women and help them to be more independent and be able to contribute more effectively to the society. Such initiatives included training and distribution of motorcycles under project of Women on Wheels. The project was initiated by Government of Punjab in various districts.

Bike riding trainings have been provided to a total of 500 females from rapid response force and general public.

Hiring Disabled Persons at Dealerships

The Company believes that to reduce inequalities, policies should be made while keeping in view the needs of disadvantaged and marginalized populations. Over the last two years, the Company has added hiring of special persons in the business score cards for dealers. In this regard 243 special persons have been employed at dealerships. Furthermore, the Company also organizes visits of such persons at its plants.

Hiring Female Staff at Dealerships

Contributing towards sustainable development goal of gender equality and women empowerment, Atlas Honda Limited inspired its dealers to hire female staff. As a result, 140 female employees are hired to date at various dealerships nationwide. To spur motivation and encouragement, these employees are offered opportunity to visit Company plants, where they are given orientation regarding Atlas culture.

Celebrating 75 Years of Independence of Pakistan

As the nation celebrates Pakistan’s 75th year of independence, the Company reflects on the incredible journey it has undertaken through its presence of over 60 years in the country. Atlas Honda gathered to commemorate the past, celebrate the present, and envision the future. To celebrate the 75th independence of the country, the Company launched the limited edition of CB125F that draws inspiration from Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage.

Apni Sawari Khud Mukhtari

This year Company has started providing training to females under the program “Apni Sawari Khud Mukhtari” which provides trainings to working women for riding bikes. Bike being an affordable mode of transportation will give women more control over transportation and a sense of independence. Bike riding trainings have been provided to a total of 860 women under this program.

To keep up with the larger objective of nation building, the Company remains committed to support and nurture multiple disciplines of sports. In this regard, the Company also sponsored sports events of 4th LRBT Golf Tournament held in Karachi, Arabian Sea Golf Club Tournament and Pakistan vs Japan Davis Cup Tie – 2021 held in Islamabad.

Response to COVID-19

The Company has been monitoring the situation of outbreak since the start of 2020. After first case was reported in Pakistan on February 26, 2020, AHL developed an action plan to control the spread of pandemic at its operating facilities. The Company also donated Rs. 44 million to Atlas Foundation out of which Rs. 24 million were contributed to Government relief funds and Rs. 20 million were used for purchase of medical equipment for medical care providers. Further, a sum of Rs. 20 million was donated for supply of food packages to support daily workers in sustaining their livelihood during lockdown.

Strict compliance with Government SOPs is being ensured at both Sheikhupura and Karachi Plants to prevent spread of the pandemic virus.

This year, bike riding trainings have been provided to 578 women. In addition, rallies in the cities of Lahore, Multan, Sargodha, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi were also organized.

Hiring Female Staff at Dealerships

Contributing towards sustainable development goal of gender equality and women empowerment, Atlas Honda Limited inspired its dealers to hire female staff. As a result, 95 female employees are hired at various dealerships nationwide. To spur motivation and encouragement, these employees were offered opportunity to visit Company plants, where they were given orientation regarding Atlas culture.

Response to COVID-19

Due to the outbreak of global pandemic COVID-19, businesses all over the country were locked down by the Government to minimize the spread of the virus and the overall economic activity has come to a halt. Realizing shortage of food, medical supplies and other amenities faced by the under privileged sector of the society, Atlas Honda took the following steps:

  • The Company donated Rs. 45 million to Atlas Foundation, out of which Rs. 25 million was contributed to Government relief funds and the remaining amount was used for the purchase of medical equipment for medical care providers; and
  • The Company also donated Rs. 20 million to Atlas Foundation for supply of food packages to support daily wage workers in sustaining their livelihood during lockdown of economic activities.

Strict compliance with Government SOPs is being ensured at both Sheikhupura and Karachi Plants to prevent spread of the pandemic virus. Amount of Rs. 30 million has been allocated for procurement of:

  • Infra-red thermometers, masks, gloves, sanitizers and other personal protective equipment; and
  • Installation of disinfectant tunnels and thermal scanners at gates.

Health

Economic progress of a country is highly dependent on healthy individuals. The Company aims to play its role for improvement of health of people including those directly associated with it. In this regard, following initiative was undertaken during the year:

Blood Donation Campaign

Through volunteerism, the Company engages and supports its employees in efforts to give back to society. A two-day blood donation camp was organized in collaboration with Indus Hospital wherein 73 associates from different departments volunteered and donated blood to help those in need.

Education & Training

SOS Training Institute

The SOS Technical Training Institute trains deserving boys and girls every year to help them break the cycle of poverty, earn a decent and dignified living and develop themselves to become productive members of the society. Demand driven technical education and vocational training in the field of automobile and electrical engineering is provided by experienced instructors. To support the Institute’s efforts, the Company has sponsored training of 145 students this year. Further, equipment/hardware support was also provided.

Industrial Visits

The Company facilitates students and officials from various institutes and allows them to visit its Karachi and Sheikhupura plants. This year 250 students from NUST, NED university, IBA Karachi, SOS Technical Training Institute and College of Aviation Safety Management visited the plants and observed the process of production of motorcycles and parts. Visitors took keen interest in the assembly line and appreciated the precision exhibited by the workers.

Shab-e-Hunar

The Hunar Foundation is one of the largest non-profit organization offering technical and vocational training across Pakistan. The Foundation organized a fundraising event Shab-e-Hunar in Lahore. The aim of the event was to raise awareness and funds for education of students at Hunar Institutes in Punjab. The Company partnered with the Hunar Foundation as one of the sponsors of the event and helped them in raising funds.

This year, customized CD 70 Dream Pink bikes were distributed amongst 500 women. In addition, rallies in the cities of Lahore, Multan, Sargodha, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi were also organized.

Women in Business and Leadership Conference

Pakistan Society of Training and Development organized 11th Women in Business Leadership Conference in which the Company participated as a sponsor. The aim of the conference is to bring successful women from all over Pakistan and engage them in initiatives to uplift women and encourage them to rise to their full potential.

Paint Work at Wagah Border

A ceremony is conducted every day at the border with much splendor which includes a parade, closing of international gates and the lowering of the flags. Seating arrangements are available for thousands of spectators who come to watch the ceremony. Exclusive seats are reserved for women. This year, the Company facilitated painting of chairs at the border in collaboration with border control authorities.

Promoting Sports

To keep up with the larger objective of nation building, the Company remains committed to support and nurture multiple disciplines of sports. In this regard, the Company sponsored following sports events:

  • 13th CNS Open International Squash Championship held in Karachi;
  • 26th Sindh Women’s Swimming Championship held in Karachi

Our Management Approach

Atlas Honda acknowledges its responsibility towards social prosperity. For this reason, we have been creating value since more than five decades and plan to continue doing the same in future. We provide economical and environment friendly mode of transportation in shape of two-wheelers to customers across Pakistan. However, our efforts are not restricted to fulfilling transportation needs of people in our communities. We actively carry out initiatives for better quality of life at our locations.

Our approach is driven by the needs of community, identified through surveys, social media pages, focagroups and meetings with the local community. We integrate this perspective into our development plans and overall strategy to deliver maximum benefit. issues with manager operations at both our plants. During the year, no significant negative effects on local communities were identified.

Implementation and monitoring of social activities at all our locations are routed through Senior Managers in HR, Admin & Corporate Affairs department and Engineering & Projects department who also review and analyze the monthly progress of such initiatives. Progress is reported to the senior management on a continuous basis.

Our commitments & initiatives for society revolve around health, education and communal initiatives.

Health

We believe that healthy populations contribute to economic progress of a country by being more productive and by saving on healthcare expenditure. Therefore, we aim to play our role for improvement of health of people within our community including those directly associated with us. In this regard, following initiative was undertaken during the year:

Blood Donation Campaign

We encourage our employees to do what they can for the welfare of their society. To provide them with an opportunity to do so, an interactive awareness session on “voluntary non-remunerated blood donation” was organized which was followed by a three-day blood donation camp in collaboration with Red Crescent wherein, 240 associates from different departments volunteered and donated blood for those in need.

Education

Education is one of the keys to socio economic development. Therefore, we believe that improving access to education is one of the most long-lasting investments we can make for society and economic growth. We are utilizing our resources in a variety of education projects with a view to promote interest for education & awareness. In this respect, following activities were carried out during the year:

Support to Vocational Training

We provide job-specific technical training sessions to students from various institutes that impart hands-on knowledge of our operations and management functions. We have a predefined methodology for this training program to attain optimal results. During the year, more than 900 students of various Vocational Training Institutes and Government Technical Training Institute attained the industrial and technical skills.

Paid Internships

Internships provide an opportunity to students to build their career’s foundations. It allows them to apply their knowledge to practical situations in a professional environment. Consistent with previous years, we offered internship programs to students from renowned universities including NED, NUST, Quaid-e-Azam University, IoBM, SZABIST, BZU, IBA Sukkur, Bahria University, IQRA University and University of Punjab. These programs are enriched with curriculum learning as well as corporate exposure. During the year 150 students successfully completed their internships and gained industry knowledge.

National Conference on Material Sciences 2018

We participated in National Conference on Material Sciences by way of sponsorship. The conference was organized by University of Karachi’s Physics department in collaboration with Higher Education Commission. The department has been playing an important role for development of science and technology in the country. The aim of this conference was to keep students abreast with recent developments in field of science.

DICE Automotive Innovation Event 2017

We participated, as sponsors, in an event organized by DICE Foundation in collaboration with its domestic and international partners and NED University of Engineering & Technology. All major brands of automotive and engineering sectors participated in this event. The event mainly focused on fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration and entrepreneurship among science students and to bridge the gap between academia and local industry so that former can act as a solution provider to industry.

STEM Savvy Kids Challenge

STEM Savvy Kids is an online competition for children between the age brackets of 3 – 15 years. The aim behind this contest is to bring the complex concepts of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths in a fun and interactive way to kids. We sponsored an event to promote this style of learning with a vision to develop individuals and inspire them to become tomorrow’s scientists, engineers and mathematicians.

Communal Initiatives

We take advantage of our shared strengths and collaborate with various stakeholders to address social issues and carry out initiatives that are effective and according to the needs of community where we operate.

Communal Initiatives

In line with our commitment and based on what has come from the society should be shared with the society, we support Atlas Foundation, a welfare and charitable organization. It was formed with a mission of betterment of society with particular emphasis on health and education and to provide assistance to the needy and deserving without discrimination, directly and/or through organizations of repute in the field of Health, Education and General Welfare. Recognizing the foundation’s role for promoting centers of professional education, contributing to health facilities, helping law enforcement agencies and improving the quality of life, we donate at least one percent of our profits to the foundation, every year. In 2017-18, we made a contribution of Rs. 52 million.

Based on our guiding principles, we do not make any contributions to any political party or for any political purpose to any individual or body.

SOS Training Institute

The SOS Technical Training Institute trains deserving boys and girls every year to help them break the cycle of poverty, earn a decent and dignified living and develop themselves into productive members of the society. Demand driven technical education and vocational training in the field of automobile and electrical engineering is provided by experienced instructors, which includes working on equipment. To support the Institute’s efforts, we extended paid training to 28 students this year.

Promoting Sports

Encouragement of sports activities is not only crucial for development of healthy individuals in a society but it also serves as a means of joy and entertainment for them. We sponsored Inter-Schools Cricket Cup 2017 held at Sheikhupura under the supervision of the Commissioner Lahore Division and Deputy Commissioner Sheikupura. Teams from various schools in the city participated and the winner and runner up teams were awarded with cash prizes.

Further, to promote and support the sports of squash in Pakistan, we sponsored the participation of three young squash players in Scottish Junior tournament and British Junior tournament held in United Kingdom. We also supported Sindh Tug of War Association in organizing ‘All Sindh Inter Divisional Tug of War Championship 2017’ in Hyderabad.

Women on Wheels

We have been undertaking various initiatives to provide women with requisite skill-set to increase their mobility and secure their independence. This is being done with an aim to create a culture where women can stand shoulder to shoulder with their male counterparts and make an even larger contribution to their families and communities. As part of such initiatives, we provided bike riding training to 602 females under Women on Wheels, a project of Punjab Government.

Foreign Female Motorcyclists Tour

We organized an expedition for 12 female riders from across the world to boost confidence amongst women and promote adventure tourism industry in Pakistan. It was an honor for us to show our guests the real and positive picture of our country through this spectacular road trip to Northern Areas on Honda CB 150 F.

Management Approach

AHL is committed to fulfill its responsibilities as a good corporate citizen through ongoing involvement in socially beneficial activities tailored to meet the needs of local communities. In order to ensure that its business activities contribute to the building of a sustainable society, AHL is focused to create a positive difference in communities through working with local partners and supporting the active involvement of its employees.

The Company has policies and procedures in place to combat corruption and fraudulent activities and focus on education and development of local communities. Further, the Company is extremely cautious of any negative impact that its activities may have on the society and has formal grievance mechanism in place to report grievances. The grievances can be filed with manager operations at plant sites. During the year, there were no grievances filed regarding the Company’s impact on society.

Analysis of risks related to corruption is a continual process at the Company and the management tolerates no corrupt practices. The Company’s Code of Conduct contains explicit requirement about Business Integrity and Anti-corruption, which every employee is obliged to adhere. AHL has dedicated internal audit department to implement the risk management systems. The department directly reports the findings to the Board Committee for taking appropriate action. All business units were analyzed on this aspect and no incidence of corruption reported during the year.

Furthermore, AHL has adopted a preventive compliance approach and fostered a corporate culture that requires stoppage of potential breaches of any provisions of laws and regulations. Owing to this approach, in the reporting year, there were no significant fines or non-monetary sanctions for non-compliance.

AHL aims to play its role for improving of health of people associated with the Company and of the overall community. During the year following initiative was taken:

To provide them with an opportunity to do so, the Company in collaboration with a not-for-profit organization organized a three-day blood donation camp, wherein, 96 associates from different departments volunteered to donate blood for those in need.

To aid university students with experience and redefined processes, AHL offered internship programs to renowned universities including NED, NUST, Quaid-e-Azam, IoBM, SZABIST, BZU, IBA Sukkur, Bahria University, Iqra University and University of Punjab. These programs are enriched with curriculum learning as well as corporate exposure. During the year, 170 students successfully completed the program and gained industry knowledge that will help them in their future studies.

Fun Learning

Learning about safe travel and traffic practices at an early age is essential. To develop awareness about safe travel and traffic practices among children, AHL arranged fun learning sessions for students of elementary classes. Puzzles, pictures for coloring and other features with easy to understand information were used to make learning fun. Information material on safe riding with illustrations is also available on the Company’s website.

Speech Competition on Road Safety

Recognizing that formal speech and debate offers a means for students to learn, share insights and exercise analytical & oratorical skills, AHL in affiliation with Islamabad Traffic Police organized a Speech Competition in the National Library, Islamabad in which college and university students took part. With around 400 students in the audience, the event was aimed at raising awareness regarding safety issues amongst youngsters. The topic was “Road Safety – Everybody’s Responsibility” to highlight the need for understanding the role of each member of the society, especially youth, for reducing the rate of accidents.

Community Initiatives

AHL collaborates with a variety of stakeholders to address complex social issues, leveraging shared strengths to carry out effective initiatives. With a common vision, AHL conducts activities to respond to needs everywhere it operates.

Donation

AHL’s commitment to donations and sponsorship is a key part of its corporate identity and reflects the desire to fulfill its corporate social responsibility. It supports Atlas Foundation, a welfare and charitable organization to promote education, health and development of youth, to share prosperity with the people, and to build a society where people can lead satisfying lives. To achieve these objectives, every year, AHL donates at least one percent of its profits to the Atlas Foundation. In 2016-17, AHL made a contribution of an amount of Rs. 66.4 million. In line with the Company’s guiding principles, AHL does not donate to political parties, party-affiliated foundations or representatives of the political arena.

WOW Rally

To empower women by imparting them with the requisite skill-set needed to increase their mobility and secure their independence, the Company in association with local bodies participated in Lahore WOW (Women on Wheels) Rally, a project of Punjab Government. Further, the Company’s qualified instructors provided free riding lessons and trainings to 1,015 female motorcyclists to get the most from their vehicles.

Grow Your Own Food

In Pakistan, malnutrition is widespread among all ages. Despite a largely agrarian economy, many rural and urban families live below the poverty line. Achieving better health and overall wellbeing requires a fundamental understanding of the methods to overcome malnutrition. Under this slogan, the Company created awareness of hygienic food and nutrition. AHL conducted the Green Pakistan Program with schools and colleges to create consciousness in young generation for home farming. Students were taught through lectures and practical training about gardening and home farming. More than 3,500 students of renowned institutes like, City School, Begum Rana Liaquat Ali Khan and others were equipped with techniques for plantation.

Keeping in view the importance of clean and healthy environment, the Company ensures upkeep of horticulture at its facilities. Attractive seasonal flora and lush green lawns maintained at its plants were recognized as the best plantation by the Horticulture Society of Pakistan in March 2017.

Pridor Eco Mileage Challenge

AHL organizes Pridor Eco Mileage Challenge whereby contestants are facilitated to compete for the longest distance while conserving fuel. This activity is conducted to raise awareness regarding preservation of scarce natural resources while educating participants in an exciting manner. It not only covers guidance for riding in a manner that provides better mileage with least fuel cost but also the tips for riding safely.

Workshop Development at SOS Training Institute

The SOS Technical Training Institute provides deserving boys and girls in the community with an opportunity to engage in vocational training in fields such as automobile engineering and electrical engineering. Demand driven technical education and vocational training is provided by experienced instructors, using teaching and practicing equipment and laboratories. Since after its establishment in 2010, the Institute has helped 400 trainees to break the cycle of poverty, earn a decent and dignified living and develop themselves into productive members of the society. Moreover, 80 students are in the process of being trained in the current batch. To support the Institutes’ efforts and play its part, AHL provided various tools and equipment for training of the underprivileged children.

Promoting Sports

Promotion of sports activities is not only important for developing healthy individuals in a society but it also serves as a means of joy and entertainment for the society. In line with strengthening women empowerment in the country, the Company sponsored Women Kabaddi team’s participation in 3rd Asian Kabaddi Championship held at Tabriz, Iran.

Health Awareness Campaigns

AHL is promoting healthcare. In this regard the company has signed MOU’s mainly with Hilal e Ahmer, Hussaini Blood, City Lab etc to work together for better results.

Dengue Fever Awareness

Dengue virus infection is increasingly organized as one of the world’s emerging infectious diseases. AHL in collaboration with local government agencies demonstrated adequate prevalence of preventive practices against the disease.

Smog awareness

In Punjab over the last past years, smog descends every winter which is highly toxic and can cause serious respiratory problems. In order to save public from eyes and nose irritation AHL distributed more than 50,000 masks to public on road and to create its awareness.

Hepatitis awareness

Every single day dozens of people are newly infected with hepatitis yet it is entirely preventable, AHL promotes campaigns for people to understand prevention is possible and encourage positive actions to prevent hepatitis

Safety Seminars/Lectures

Safety seminars and lectures have always been important feature of road safety program. Every year the company engages different institutes, universities and colleges to hold these seminars and lectures that imparts useful information and helps to reduce accidents in future.

Safety seminars/lectures conducted last year mainly includes NUST, COMSATS, Punjab group of collages, Pak naval students, Nestle, USAID and Unilever etc.

World Stop Accidents Day

Every year the company celebrates World Stop Accidents Day where hundreds of students participate. The carnival promotes the importance of abiding by traffic rules to curtail the risk of accidents. The company also distributes pamphlets containing precautionary measures and importance of helmets.

Event Celebration with Minorities

Every year AHL promotes and participates in event celebration with minorities to enhance the spirit of brotherhood and humanity. In this regard last year we distributed gifts among the teachers and students of Church school.

Iftaar Packages Distribution

To encourage the Traffic Police Force performing their duties in Ramadan during Iftaar timings, packages are distributed.
